Challenge: Combine websites of NASA's Space and Earth Science Enterprises in six weeks

NASA underwent a reorganization in 2004, which included merging the Space Science and Earth Science Enterprises into a new organization, the Science Mission Directorate. The two Enterprises had completely different philosophies of outreach and of the role of the web. They had vastly different cultures, and could not provide us with clear direction of who they were and what they were supposed to do - because they were still figuring it out. But they knew they needed a website, and fast.

With this limited information, we developed a new design and information architecture in a very short time frame. I also wrote several science summaries to augment the Solar System and Universe areas. The topics for these summaries were drawn from the former Space Science Enterprise's strategic plan.

• How do galaxies form and evolve?
• How do stars form and evolve?
• Are we alone?
• What powered the Big Bang?
• What is dark energy and how is it pulling the universe apart?
